This is a project I completed several years ago, but I thought it was definitely worth revisiting. It deserves to live on. Below is the original statement that accompanied the series in early 2008:
The Printed Page – Ephemeral or Enduring?
Working closely with letterforms and page layouts on a daily basis, I got to thinking of all this work that gets forgotten and stacked away on dusty basement shelving, never appreciated again.
I left this stack of old books in the woods for two winters and three summers and documented their decay. Frozen, gnawed, soaked, strewn, and impregnated with seed, these books have gotten more attention in the last three years than they have in the last three decades.
UPDATE: I went out to the woods this summer (2013) and this is all that’s left. I also cant find any files larger than 500px wide. I guess this project was meant for decay.
